Gratitude to the Community
So much is possible with your help
At Friends, we’re incredibly thankful for the strong support shown by our local community. That support enables us to continue to work tirelessly to preserve our precious state park lands, protect our visitor-serving economy and provide essential funds in support of dynamic programs which inspire and build connections between people and nature.
State Parks Grassroots Champion Award
In 2009, Friends led California’s highest-profile local campaign to keep parks open, bringing together thousands of people who phoned, faxed, rallied and harnessed social media to convince the governor and legislators to keep parks open. This effort was recognized statewide by the California Parks Foundation with the State Parks Grassroots Champion Award for tireless dedication to state park protection and advocacy.
Friends led Santa Cruz County’s Yes on 21 campaign
Santa Cruz led California
In 2010 Friends led the campaign to keep our beaches safe with the successful Save Our Lifeguards Campaign. Friends also led Santa Cruz County’s Yes on 21 campaign keep parks open. Though the election results were deeply disappointing, the Santa Cruz County Yes on 21 vote was 68% — the highest in California and 25.4% higher than the statewide result!
