Santa Cruz Sentinel - County supervisors protest closure of state parks

The county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday adopted a resolution opposing the closure of California's state parks.
The symbolic effort, which carries no legislative weight, comes as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposes closing more than 200 parks statewide, including all of the state parks in Santa Cruz County, to shore up the state's $24 billion budget shortfall.
"If implemented, the plan of closing down most of our beautiful parks would solve less than 1 percent of our problem," the resolution reads. "This ill-conceived idea would deny the residents of California opportunities to camp, hike, picnic and to participate in other low-cost, wholesome activities."
The resolution was authored by Supervisor Mark Stone.
