MID-JUNE PARK ENEWS
Hi Friends,

Adobe Weekend Recap

We had a very busy event schedule and have A LOT of thanking to do!

Friday, June 6th acclaimed artist "Michael Schwab" unveiled his new "Mission Adobe" print as part of the "That's My Park" Adobe Series.

Schwab fans were able to meet and greet the artist and view his work for Friends.

The Tailgaters provided the perfect accompaniment to the glorious panorama of Santa Cruz and beautiful art with beautiful multi-voice harmonies, classic tunes that everybody knew and loved, and toe-tappers that got everybody's hips moving. While grooving to the tunes of the 70's and 80's, guests munched on tasty snacks and sipped delicious Mocktails mixed by Board Treasurer Phil Duval and Castro Committee Member Charlene Duval.

Special thanks to volunteers Valerie Schilling, Cabel McCormick, Karen Simmons, photgrapher Roberto Monjes, the Friends Mission Adobe Committee, Board Members, The Tailgaters and everyone who came out to celebrate with us!

The following day at the Castro Adobe in Watsonville, we held an open House of the historic building and grounds, plus the unveiling of Michael Schwab's new "Castro Adobe" image.

Over 300 people attended the event, with the excitement centered around the draped Schwab Castro Adobe print. At the unveiling, the first signed print was presented to Charlie and Patty Kieffer for their priceless work and dedication not only to the Castro Adobe, but to Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks and the Santa Cruz County community.

Special thanks to event MC Fred Keeley and volunteers Lillian Thomas, Linda Wilshusen, Kimlin McDaniels-Keith, Ken Thomas, John Blauvelt, Matt, Owen, and Mateo Levy, the Castro Committee, the Friends Board. Thanks to Gonzalo Rodriguez on harp and, of course, to Michael Schwab for his beautiful art and generosity. Click here for more photos of the Castro Open House on our Facebook!

Please bring your own chair or something comfortable to sit on as the seating area is over concrete. Low profile lawn chairs are permitted. Seating is on a first-come-first-served basis, although those with taller chairs will be requested to sit in the back.

A Big "Thank You"!
Special thanks this month goes out to Jean Bernard, Ken Moonie and the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade independent study leadership class at the Pacific School in Davenport.

Long-time parks supporter and advocate, Jean is also a talented interpreter, often times using her special craft skills to educate youngsters and adults alike on the history and importance of our State Parks and Beaches.

Jean organized a fundraiser banquet for the Monterey Bay Ladies B Team for the benefit of Friends, raising a whopping $550! We were thrilled when we received her donation and thank her for her hard work and dedication to our parks and beaches! THANK YOU, JEAN!!

We are always moved by the generosity of youngsters, especially that of the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade independent study leadership class at the Pacific School in Davenport.

Each year, the class chooses 5 organizations to support by collecting donations over a few months. We are honored to be chosen as one of their supported organizations and recently received a very kind donation of $17 that the students worked hard to collect. A big Friends "Thank You" goes out to the students and donors whose kindness will help make a difference in our Santa Cruz County State Parks and Beaches.

Park supporter Ken Moonie has once again donated to help restore the Wilder Ranch kitchen. Last year, Mr. Moonie's generosity allowed us to purchase a replica era-appropriate stove for the Wilder Kitchen. This year, he's underwriting for a retro table and chair set to add even more authenticity to the beloved cultural preserve. We are very grateful for his generosity!

Thanks to all who help through their generous donations.
