Open House at the Castro Adobe: Earthquakes and our Adobe

October 19, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

free

The whitewash had barely dried when the Fort Tejon Earthquake shook our adobe in 1857. Just half a century later it was rocked by the same earthquake that practically destroyed San Francisco. Through a combination of sound construction, wise renovations, and perhaps some luck, enough of our adobe survived a direct hit from the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989 for us to reconstruct as the Pájaro Valley’s own state park. Check in on the reconstruction, enjoy a snack from the restored cocina, and see how we’ve prepared for future earthquakes. This park is currently an active construction site as the adobe building is being repaired and is open only during scheduled events. Free event; limited parking (carpooling encouraged).
